Ellen Bryant Voigt’s poem seemed rather dark. After reading this poem I have many questions. Did they thing doing these things would prevent them from getting the flu? Why did think doing these things would help save them from the virus?  How many times did they kill an animal and leave them outside the house?

Some thing that really stands out to me is the whole routine. Imagine having to shave your head, sleep in steam, and rub camphor, mustard, and fatback all over your body. These just seem like odd things to do to prevent a virus.

One big similarity I see between this poem and our current situation is the need to stay inside. The state of Maine is now under a stay at home order. This has been put in place because a lot of people have been going out and hiking or going to the beaches since they are home and have nothing to do. This is to help keep people from being in contact with other people. Not many people in my town have been doing very well with the social distancing and staying at home at all.
