My first response is to Courtney’s entry. I agree with a lot of what she is saying. It must have been very scary for those who were volunteering at that time. This is very similar in a lot of ways as to what we are facing now with the COVID-19 pandemic. She talks about how a local nurse is helping out people by starting a clothing and shoe drive to support those who need to leave the hospital. Courtney also talks bout how she I helping support local business by getting take out and buying other things. At times like these everyone needs to support everyone. Even if it is so much as ordering take out from a local business or staying at home to stop the spread. And small things like stying 6 feet apart from others is really helpful.

My second response is to mads entry. I agree that most of the people who worked or volunteered for the Red Cross must have been very scared. With an illness like that going around with no answers or knowledge must have been terrifying for most people. It was very brave of those who volunteered. There weren’t as many precautions in terms of sanitation or resources compared to what we have now. Even with what we have now, it still doesn’t feel like enough. Also agree with wanting to volunteer but also knowing you can’t. I feel the same way, I have no medical knowledge. I too would put my loved ones first and not risk getting more people sick. I also agree on the fact that we need to keep our distance form others. I know in my community I’ve been seeing more people out and about than I normally do because they are all home from work and school and they are bored.
